APOLLO ACADEMY FOR HEALTH AND HUMANISM presents
A Health and Chamber Music Workshop • Festival • Retreat
String Quartet Masterpieces of Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms (1809–1897)
September 6–9, 2018
Ratna Ling Retreat Center (Sonoma County, California)
Following the very successful workshop/festival/retreat on the string quartets of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, the Apollo Academy will again feature a truly unique opportunity for serious chamber music enthusiasts to expand their ability to understand the string quartets of Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. In addition to the opportunity for pre-formed quartets to be coached by members of the Alexander String Quartet, playing participants will also have a change to engage in chamber music reading sessions in which they are playing with members of the Quartet and Apollo Academy professional musical staff.
This unique event also includes sessions on achieving optimum health and wellness. The Ratna Ling Retreat Center, a world-class retreat facility, will help provide a rich program of yoga, meditation, healthy food preparation and preventive medicine — all designed to increase body awareness and enhance overall health.
Another distinctive aspect of this event is the “dinner concert” series which will provide insight into the string quartet masterpieces of these three romantic German composers and their historical period. These “dinner concerts” will feature performances which are an entertaining and informative collaboration between the Alexander String Quartet and the eminent composer, pianist, and music historian Robert Greenberg.
