Ayurveda, a Sanskrit word that means “knowledge of life and longevity,” is a five thousand year old practice that teaches us how to live in balance with the natural world. Unlike Western approaches to medicine, Ayurveda takes into account the fact that each and every one of us is uniquely made and possesses the ability to self-heal. There is no standard one-size-fits all method here. Ayurveda shows us that good health is a lifetime practice, composed of not only physical, but mental, emotional, spiritual, social, familial and social well being. This includes making time for yourself to retreat and re-center!
Ayurveda recognizes that all things are made up of a specific amount of 5 elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. Vata (space and air), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water) are the three doshas, or primal energies, that merge in varying degrees to create our biological blueprints. Discovering your unique blueprint is the key to unlocking glowing health in your life.
The seasons are also ruled by doshic activity. Autumn is ruled by Vata. Airy Vata is like the wind of change, fanning the fire of summer to burn more intensely. The abundant, long days of summer give way to shorter, darker, cooler energies and special care must be taken to remain grounded, warm and confident. Ratna Ling has partnered with the famous Ayurvedic genius Doctor Helen Thomas to create an educational and participatory weekend retreat to help you learn to stay nourished, balanced and healthy this autumn. You will discover your unique body type and be offered practical tools and practices to take control of your health and happiness.
There will be time for discussion and questions, interacting with like-minded people, savoring delicious autumn meals, experiencing Tibetan yogic healing practices, and simply enjoy the sounds and sites of nature from the balcony of your luxurious private cottage. Dive into every session as deeply as you wish, or feel free to take some personal time: perhaps a make reservations for relaxing in-cottage massage, take a hike to the ocean, or curl up with a cup of tea and your favorite book…this is your time to heal!

Dr. Helen Thomas, DC, is a chiropractor who’s studied and practiced Ayurveda since 1987 with Dr. Narendra Pendse, Deepak Chopra, Vasant Lad, Raju, and more. She operates the Thomas Chiropractic clinic in Santa Rosa, CA, which provides Ayurveda, NAET®, Chiropractic, bodywork, and bioenergetics treatments. The coauthor of “Effortless Beauty, 10 Steps to Inner and Outer Radiance the Ayurvedic Way” and “Ayurveda: The A-Z Guide to Healing Techniques from Ancient India,” she offers workshops and seminars on the holistic perception of health, the natural treatment and prevention of disease, and the effective combination of therapies she uses in her practice.
