Ayurveda and Yoga for a Long and Healthy Life

With Gloria Baraquio, Melina Meza, Shari Sunshine and Rosalyn White

September 10 - 13, 2018

Ayurveda is the ancient healing science of India that considers all aspects of a person, in order to cultivate optimal health throughout all stages of life. Yoga and meditation are two of the most effective practices prescribed to balance one’s physical, emotional and spiritual energies. This retreat will allow you to determine your natural constitution, or “dosha”, and offer helpful tools to develop greater strength, flexibility, brain health and nutrition. These techniques will bring more vitality and greater happiness at any age.

Yoga

You can expect unique workshops and practices that blend Hatha Yoga to build strength, balance and agility. Yin Yoga classes will help you increase your flexibility, enhance your circulation in the body and quiet your mind with longer held accessible postures to prepare for meditation.

Principles of Ayurveda

With Melina’s mastery of yoga, holistic nutrition, and Ayurveda, this workshop will provide you with the knowledge of what it takes to create a practice for healthy aging. This unique class will help you to learn more about Ayurveda and seasonal yoga insights that connect you to the rhythms of nature and seasons of life.

Ayurvedic Nutrition

Melina’s background as a nutritionist blends with her study of Ayurvedic principles to allow her to offer unique insights on how to eat in a way that keeps us healthy through all stages in life. She will offer suggestions for all three main constitutions and body types (doshas) and for those who are a combination.

What is your Dosha?

Your dosha reflects the intrinsic nature of your body and mind. Vata types tend to be tall, slender and airy. Pittas are generally of medium build, athletic and fiery. Kaphas are more full-figured and earthy. Understanding what your predominant characteristic is helps to identify techniques and practices you can utilize to bring balance into your life.  You will also learn how to take your pulse to determine your current state of health.

Colors for the Doshas

In the Ayurveda tradition, colors are used as a way of balancing our natures and our mental states of mind. We will learn which colors balance each dosha or body type and experiment with coloring images to enhance the nature of our doshas.

Guided Meditation Practice
Designed for students of all levels, this meditation class focuses specifically on your health and quieting your mind. The emphasis will be on technique and sitting practice to experience the benefits of meditation.
