San Francisco Mind & Body Retreat FAQ’s

We’re about two and a half to three hours north, depending on traffic and where in the city you’re starting from. Most Bay Area guests treat it as a weekend trip, drive up Friday afternoon and head home Sunday feeling like a completely different person.

Definitely. A lot of our guests come from San Francisco, Oakland, and the greater Bay Area looking for a short break that doesn’t require booking flights or using up vacation days. Two or three nights here is enough to actually feel the shift.

It’s a pretty drive once you get past the city, up through wine country and into the redwoods near Cazadero. Give yourself a little extra time on the way up since cell service gets spotty the closer you get, which honestly is part of the point.

Not at all. Plenty of people who come up from San Francisco have never set foot in a meditation hall before. Each retreat page will tell you the pace and any experience recommended, but most of what we offer works for beginners.

Yes. Many guests attend retreats on their own. Traveling alone can give you more space for personal reflection while still allowing you to connect with teachers and other participants during shared activities.

Coming solo is really common, especially for folks driving up from the city who just need space to themselves. You’ll have plenty of quiet time, and you’ll also get to know other guests during meals and group sessions if you want to.

Layers, mostly. San Francisco weather doesn’t always match what you’ll find here in the redwoods, and it can get cooler at night than you’d expect. Comfortable clothes for yoga or walking, a water bottle, and something warm for the evenings will cover you.

It depends on the specific program, how long it runs, and what’s included. Pricing is listed on each retreat’s individual page, so take a look at the upcoming retreats above to compare.

It varies by weekend, but you can expect some combination of yoga, meditation, breathwork, mindful movement, and time outdoors. Some retreats add in things like journaling, group discussion, or quiet personal time. Check the specific retreat you’re interested in for the full schedule.

That’s honestly why most of our Bay Area guests show up. Between the pace of city life and constant notifications, people arrive a little frazzled and leave noticeably calmer. There’s no traffic, no rush, just space to actually exhale.

Most guests drive up from San Francisco since we’re pretty rural, but if you don’t have a car, some guests carpool with others attending the same retreat or arrange a rideshare for part of the trip. Reach out to us directly if you need help figuring out transportation and we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
