A series of mindfulness practices, Calm & Clear Retreats will be offered every season.  Perfect for beginners and returning guests!

Are you looking to find peace and groundedness in your daily life?  Do you want more tools to keep you balanced and happy in your work, home, and relationships?  This weekend will offer useful and transformative teachings that come from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.  Facilitated by students of Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche, this retreat will include discussions about the mind’s tendencies, ways to practice meditation, and tools to relax and feel into joy.  You will leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and how to bring caring and ease into all of your actions.

RELAXATION YOGA

These yoga classes are designed for all levels, incorporating breathing, stretching, and fluid movements.  The postures and techniques help to stabilize and calm the nervous system, strengthen muscles, and tone the organs, bringing more ease and circulation throughout the body. You can expect to feel more relaxed, aware, and stronger from this yoga practice.

 

MEDITATION

Get a short introduction on the practice of samatha, calm abiding.  This is a sitting meditation practice with instructions on posture, positioning, focus, and breathing. 

 

CALMING THE MIND

Explore the Buddha’s  teachings and how they relate to understanding and calming the mind.  Learning the Four Noble Truths, begin to examine what suffering is and identify its root causes. Discover methods for changing your relationship with mind in the midst of suffering. This session will illuminate the practical benefits of training your mind through calming meditation. 

 

TIBETAN YOGA & MANTRA

This session will combine Tibetan Yoga movements (Kum Nye) and mantra to bring harmony to body, speech, and mind.

 

WATCHING THE MIND

A lecture and discussion about traditional teachings of the mind and how it works in concentration, contemplation, and meditation.  Senior student and teacher George Wiegand will draw from the teachings in Lama Mipham’s text “Calm and Clear”.

 

SACRED ART & VISUALIZATION

Experience the peace and beauty of Tibetan Buddhist art and learn ways to use art as tools for meditation.

Rosalyn White
Rosalyn White has studied meditation and Tibetan art under the guidance of the Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Tarthang Tulku, for over forty years. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the California College of Art and a teaching credential from UC Berkeley. She is currently Co-Director of Ratna Ling and has been teaching classes in meditation and sacred art for over 25 years. George Wiegand
George Wiegand has been a student of our Founder Tarthang Tulku and a full-time volunteer in Nyingma organizations for more than 30 years, as a chef, baker, kitchen manager, temple builder, book binder, and pressman.  He has a Master’s of Education in Counseling and has worked as an educator and counselor in several high school systems.  His hobbies include bread baking, basketball, and choir singing.

Tara Ristau
Tara has been a volunteer for the Tibetan Nyingma Meditation Centers since 2007.  She began her journey along the Buddhist path at the Yeshe De bindery making sacred texts to help preserve the Tibetan Buddhist lineage of wisdom.
