Practicing Peace in a Pandemic – ONLINE

As we continue in this time of quarantine and global transformation, we may find ourselves experiencing a range of emotions, thoughts, and concerns. What will life be like? Will I be safe and healthy? Will my family have enough to eat? What will happen to our economy and our jobs?
While there are many things to be determined, we can pause our minds and be present with what we have today. We can come into our breaths and see with different eyes. We can envision a new future for ourselves, by being honest with the present.
This online retreat is designed for you to take a deep breath, consider all the things that matter to you, and decide how to take your next step. We first begin with this moment.
This weekend will consist of:
- Journaling, Reflection, and Discussion
- Sharing Circles
- Sound Healing
- Nature Walk
- Virtual Wellness Sessions available at an additional cost
You don’t need to attend all the sessions. You are welcome to watch recordings on your own time and at your own pace. If possible, we do prefer that you attend both Opening and Closing Circles.
A strong wifi connection, electronic device, and the Zoom app are required.
All sessions will be via Zoom, and other communications will be via email. Each session will be recorded and emailed upon completion.
Please have a yoga mat, meditation cushion, journal, and quiet space designated for our time together. We ask that you arrive online focused without distractions or interruptions.

*Note for Meal Breaks: We encourage you to eat healthy and mindfully between sessions of this retreat. Please prepare in advance what you might eat, maybe vegetarian fare or plant-based organic meals. You might even consider a juice fast or skipping one meal a day. This may help to create conditions for you to feel more present and aware at each session.
These yoga classes are designed for all levels, incorporating breathing, stretching, and fluid movements. The postures and techniques help to stabilize and calm the nervous system, strengthen muscles, and tone the organs, bringing more ease and circulation throughout the body. You can expect to feel more relaxed, aware, and stronger from this yoga practice.
Through meditation, you can learn how to be with yourself and make friends with your mind, through sitting or walking. The mind has a multitude of qualities and abilities, and meditation helps us observe and acquaint ourselves with the ones that occur often and those that we didn’t know were there. This practice can bring about more steadiness, clarity, discernment, and calmness for the mind, body, and spirit.
WORKING WITH OUR EMOTIONS
Yoga Trainer Gloria Baraquio and Licensed Therapist Chris de Cristofaro will facilitate a discussion about emotions that have surfaced during this unprecedented time in our world. From group discussion, we will move into tools we can use to be with our body sensations, then identify the emotion arising, notice the belief behind it, and ultimately the facts of the moment. These practices will help us ground us when we are feeling overly emotional and help us own the truth of our experience, and use the information to make mindful decisions and act skillfully.
Enjoy the Springtime outdoors at Ratna Ling! Gloria will take you on a tour around the property, show you the gardens, touch the trees, explore our stupas, and visit the places where we like to relax, pray, and meditate.
TIBETAN MANTRA MEDITATION
Find inspiration through learning about Buddhist deities and chanting mantras to invoke and embody higher qualities of being.
Enjoy and relax to the sounds of harmonizing bowls, chimes, and serene musical instruments. Allow the mind and body to soften, as your spirit travels to restful and ethereal realms. Participants can lay down for most of the practice, and/or move through restorative postures with supportive props.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Gloria has been teaching vinyasa since 2006, studying Tibetan Buddhism since 2004, and singing devotional music since she was a young child. She earned her 200-hour certificate from Yoga Hawaii and her 300-hour certificate with Raghunath Cappo and Radhanath Swami in India. Gloria has practiced with spiritual, indigenous, and ancient traditions from Hawaii, Catholicism, Christianity, Baha’i, Agape, Vaishnavism, Hinduism, Tantra, Kundalini, Zen, and Vajrayana Buddhism. Rosalyn White has studied meditation and Tibetan art under the guidance of the Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Tarthang Tulku, for over forty years. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the California College of Art and a teaching credential from UC Berkeley. She is currently Co-Director of Ratna Ling and has been teaching classes in meditation and sacred art for over 25 years.
